Social Studies

Social Studies is a K–12 program designed to help students develop an understanding of history, geography, economics, and civics through an inquiry-based approach. Across the K–12 sequence, students examine human experiences, challenges, and achievements from the past and present in order to better understand the development of civilizations and the world around them.

Students build the skills necessary to analyze multiple perspectives, evaluate evidence, and engage in informed decision-making and problem-solving. The program emphasizes the development of critical thinking, civic understanding, and global awareness in alignment with the New York State Learning Standards for Social Studies.
