Letter from Mr. Johnson regarding pickup/dropoff

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures:

Nyack Middle School begins at 8:04 a.m. If you drop your child off on Wednesday, please enter our campus via the Dickinson Avenue entrance only. When you approach Nyack Middle School, you will be directed by our security team to a drop-off point located in the front of our building. Please do not attempt to pass any vehicles in line. Due to the high number of vehicles dropping students off during the first day of school, it is best to allow extra time to complete the drop-off process. Please do not arrive on campus until 2:40 p.m. Students are dismissed at 2:50 p.m. When you arrive for dismissal, please follow the directions of the security personnel. Due to safety and security concerns, you must remain in your vehicle during arrival and dismissal, and our security team will escort your child to your car after all of our buses depart.

Health information from our nurse - FYI

We have seen an uptick in flu cases among our students. To help mitigate the spread of the flu, we encourage families to remind their children to practice good hygiene, including frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and avoiding close contact with those who are sick. If your child is experiencing flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, or body aches, please keep them home until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication. We appreciate your partnership in keeping our school community healthy and safe.

Students who feel ill during school hours MUST NOT communicate with parents on their cell phones to be picked up from school. Students should report to the school nurse, who will notify parents.  A reminder that a note from a doctor is required if absences exceed 3 days or more.

Spotlight on NMS

Message from the Principal : David Johnson

Nyack Middle School serves approximately 660 students in grades 6 through 8. We strive to create an environment where all children learn, grow and become "better students and better citizens" who will contribute to this outstanding community. Nyack Middle School strives to prepare our students to lead in our ever-evolving world. We stress 21st-Century skills such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking, compassion, creativity, and cultural awareness.  The faculty and staff of Nyack Middle School hold the highest expectations of excellence from the students that we teach. We have an unwavering dedication to helping students achieve their goals and dreams.

At Nyack Middle School, we are charged with developing the minds of the young people whom we teach.  We strive to instill character in our students that reflects the values of this great community. Our students learn to have empathy and responsibility towards each other. We will continue to promote Nyack Middle School P.R.I.D.E. by teaching our behavior expectations daily while also understanding that mistakes in behavior provide opportunities for learning and growth.  With this approach, we will have not only better students but also better citizens.

We believe that our diversity is our greatest strength. We celebrate our differences and embrace the melting pot that this district and country embodies.

Parental involvement and communication are the foundation of any successful school. As a resident of this community and a parent of two students who attend Nyack Public Schools, I am deeply invested in the success of every student attending Nyack Middle School. Thank you for entrusting your children's education to the faculty and staff of Nyack Middle School. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Grade 8 parent news

Although it is hard to believe, June is quickly approaching.  During the Moving-Up Ceremony on June 24th at 8:30am,  all students are required to wear an academic gown.  The cost to purchase a gown is $20.00, payable by cash, check, or online payment.  All cash or check payments must be given to Mrs. Sullivan in the Main Office and a receipt for payment will be given.  Payments are due no later than March 6, 2026. For accounting and tracking purposes, we ask that if you make your payment by cash, please enclose your payment in an envelope and label the envelope with your child’s name.  If you are making your payment via check, the check should be made payable to Nyack Middle School and your child’s name must be written in the memo section of the check If you prefer to make your payment via credit card/online payment, log onto www.mypaymentsplus.com; please note there is a charge of 4.75% of the transaction amount.  If you DO NOT already have an account set up, you will need your child’s ID number in order to set it up.Donations are warmly welcomed and help to offset the expense for some of our students.  Your kindness and generosity would be greatly appreciated.  If your family needs assistance to cover the cost of the graduation gown, please contact Mariela Monterroza at mmonterroza@nyackschools.org  or call 845-353-7214.  Your request will be kept completely confidential.  Aunque es difícil de creer, el mes de junio se acerca rápidamente.
