Course Objectives
This class follows the sixth grade core curriculum and New York State Standards for sixth grade at a modified pace in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. For a more detailed description of each class that your child may be enrolled in please see the various sections below.

Period 2 English
Welcome to English 6
This year we are going to focus on figurative language and literary terms by reading a variety of wonderful short stories, novels, and plays. Our first short story is "Through the Tunnel" and focused on a young boy overcoming a challenging situation.
Period 3 Math
Welcome to Math 6
This year we are going to be using the Connect Math Series. Our first book of the year is Prime Time. We will be working with prime numbers, factoring, and multiples.
Period 5 Social Studies
Social Studies 6
This year we are going to be taking a tour of ancient civilizations. After a brief review of general social studies content we will begin our first unit, Paleolithic Times! We will further explore the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Phoenicia, Greece, and Rome.
Period 6 Science
Welcome to Science 6
This Course strives to have students develop an understanding of the basic concepts of life science. Utilizing a combination of open-ended/hands-on activities, computer -aided instruction, student projects, content area writing, and class room presentations, students will gain an appreciation of interconnections between various living organisms that exist on Earth. The measurement and the Metric System, cells and living things, cell processes, heredity and genetics, classification of living things, taxonomy, viruses, kingdoms, plant structure, human body and its structure, functions and systems, and ecology.
